This page lists the packages Lenovo published for it on Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit), with the version and a plain-English note on what each one does.

You will also find how to confirm your machine type, a recommended install order, fixes for common problems and a safe BIOS update checklist. Confirm your exact model before you download

Installing a package built for a different model or configuration can leave a device failing in Device Manager, so check first:

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  2. Read the System Model line. It starts with the machine type, for example 20L7 or 20L8.
  3. Alternatively, check the sticker on the bottom of the laptop, near the serial number.

Wi-Fi and mobile broadband modules, the fingerprint reader and the smart card slot varied by region and configuration, so the notes under each driver say who needs it. Also check you have 64-bit Windows: open Settings → System → About and read the System type. Every package here is for 64-bit.

Tip: To see which version of a driver you already have, open Device Manager (right-click the Start button), expand the category, right-click the device and choose Properties → Driver. Only update if the version in the tables below is newer.

Lenovo ThinkPad T480s drivers for Windows 11 (64-bit)

17 packages are listed for 64-bit Windows 11. The mobile broadband, Thunderbolt, fingerprint and smart card packages apply only to configurations that have that hardware. Lenovo does not list a separate Ethernet driver, so if the wired connection is not detected, let Windows Update install it.

Troubleshooting specific problems

Wi-Fi missing after a Windows reinstall

First check Device Manager for an unknown device or a yellow warning icon on the wireless adapter. Install the Intel chipset package, restart, then install the Intel 8265 Wi-Fi driver. If you have no connection to download it, fetch it on another PC and copy it over on a USB drive.

Bluetooth missing or greyed out

Look for a Bluetooth category in Device Manager. If the Intel Bluetooth entry has a yellow warning icon, or is missing, install the chipset package, restart, then install the Intel Bluetooth driver.

Fingerprint reader not detected

Install the Synaptics driver, restart, and only then set up the fingerprint in Windows Hello (Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options). If the reader is still missing, check Device Manager under Biometric devices.

Unknown device in Device Manager

Right-click it, choose Properties, open the Details tab and select Hardware Ids. Search that string on Lenovo Support when none of the packages above resolve it. This usually pinpoints a card reader or sensor variant that is specific to your unit's configuration.

BIOS update notes

Lenovo lists BIOS update utility 1.62 for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). Before updating:

  • Check your current version first (Windows + R, msinfo32, BIOS Version) and skip the update if you are already on 1.62.
  • Connect the AC adapter, because a BIOS update interrupted by a power loss can leave the laptop unable to start.
  • Close all other applications.
  • Do not restart or power off manually during the update.

Heads-up: Microsoft has ended regular support for Windows 10, so it no longer receives standard security updates. If you stay on Windows 10, keep your antivirus current and avoid untrusted sites and downloads. If you upgrade to Windows 11 and setup reports that the PC does not meet the requirements, the cause is almost always the TPM or Secure Boot setting in the BIOS (F1 at startup), not the hardware.

Driver links change over time. If a link stops working, search for the ThinkPad T480s on Lenovo Support and select your exact machine type and Windows version. That is always the authoritative source; this page is meant to save you the navigation time.

Frequently asked questions

Which machine types does the ThinkPad T480s come in?

The T480s was sold as machine type 20L7 or 20L8. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and read the System Model line, which starts with the four-character machine type. The sticker on the bottom of the laptop, near the serial number, shows the same code.

Can my T480s run Windows 11?

The T480s uses an 8th-generation Intel Core processor, and those are on Microsoft's supported list. Windows 11 also needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, so if setup says the PC does not meet the requirements, open the BIOS setup (F1 at startup) and check that the security chip and Secure Boot are enabled.

Can I use the ThinkPad T480 drivers on a T480s?

They are different models, and Lenovo publishes separate packages for each, the BIOS update in particular. Use the list for your model. If you own a T480, see the ThinkPad T480 drivers on Cloud Drivers instead.

My Wi-Fi or mobile broadband card is not listed. What should I do?

Lenovo sometimes fits different wireless or mobile broadband modules depending on region and configuration. Open Device Manager, right-click the unknown device, choose Properties, then Details and Hardware Ids, and search Lenovo Support for that ID. The Fibocom L850-GL and L830-EB packages are for the optional SIM-card modem, so you need at most one of them, and neither if your laptop has no modem.

Do I need the Thunderbolt packages?

Only if you use Thunderbolt 3 docks or devices. The firmware utility updates the controller itself, so run it with the AC adapter connected and do not interrupt it. The Thunderbolt software manages connected devices.

Is it safe to update the BIOS, and what if the laptop will not start afterwards?

A BIOS update is safe when done carefully: connect the AC adapter, close other programs and do not power the laptop off during the update. If it fails to start afterwards, follow Lenovo's own BIOS recovery procedure for the T480s from Lenovo Support rather than improvising, and do not remove internal parts unless Lenovo's instructions say so.

The fingerprint reader is detected, but login fails. Is it a driver problem?

Usually it is a Windows Hello setup issue rather than a driver issue. After installing the Synaptics driver and restarting, open Settings, then Accounts, then Sign-in options, remove the old fingerprint and enrol it again.

Should I use Lenovo Vantage instead of these downloads?

Lenovo Vantage, Lenovo's companion app from the Microsoft Store, can detect your exact configuration and offer only the drivers that apply to it, which suits less technical users. Manual downloads from the tables on this page give you more control over versions, which helps if a newer driver causes trouble.

Are these download links safe?

Every Download button points to Lenovo's own download server at download.lenovo.com, and nothing is re-hosted on this site. After downloading, right-click the file, choose Properties and look for a Digital Signatures tab to confirm it is signed.

A download link does not work. What should I do?

Lenovo occasionally moves or retires files. Search for the ThinkPad T480s on Lenovo Support and select your exact machine type and Windows version, or leave a comment below so this page can be updated.
