Lenovo ThinkPad T480 Drivers – Windows 11 & 10 (64-bit)
Looking for official Lenovo ThinkPad T480 drivers? The T480 (machine types 20L5 and 20L6) is a popular used business laptop, and after buying one secondhand, reinstalling Windows or moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11, several parts need Lenovo drivers before they work properly. This page lists the packages Lenovo published for the T480 on Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit), with the version and a plain-English note on what each one does.
Windows Update usually gets you working audio, basic graphics and wired networking, but often not the ThinkPad hotkeys, the fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt support or the current Intel graphics driver. Every Download button links straight to Lenovo's own download server (download.lenovo.com), and nothing is re-hosted here. Working on another machine? Confirm your machine type before you download
Lenovo sold the T480 in more than one configuration, so confirm what you have before installing anything. Any one of these checks works:
- Flip the laptop over and read the label near the serial number. It shows the machine type, such as 20L5 or 20L6.
- Press Windows + R, type
msinfo32and read the System Model line. - Open the BIOS setup (press F1 at startup) and look at the system information screen.
- Check you have 64-bit Windows. Open Settings → System → About and read the System type. Every package here is for 64-bit.
- Install only what matches your laptop. Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, fingerprint reader and smart card slot varied by configuration. The notes under each driver say who needs it.
Lenovo ThinkPad T480 drivers for Windows 11 (64-bit)
17 packages are listed for 64-bit Windows 11. Lenovo does not list a separate Ethernet driver, so if the wired connection is not detected, let Windows Update install it. The mobile broadband, Thunderbolt, fingerprint and smart card packages apply only to configurations that have that hardware.

Recommended installation order
On a clean Windows install, order saves repeat reboots and avoids missing-device warnings. Restart whenever an installer asks you to.
- Chipset: the Intel chipset package: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Graphics: the Intel graphics driver first: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Audio: the Realtek audio driver: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Network: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus the mobile broadband driver if your laptop has a modem: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Touchpad: the ELAN UltraNav driver: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Hotkeys: Fn-key support: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Fingerprint reader: only if your laptop has one: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Card readers: the memory card reader, and the smart card reader if you have one: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Camera: the integrated camera driver: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- Thunderbolt: only if you use Thunderbolt docks or devices: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
- BIOS update: only if you need it, as a separate step, with the AC adapter connected and no other installer running: Windows 11 · Windows 10.
Troubleshooting problems people actually report
No Wi-Fi after a clean install
If the wireless adapter shows as an unknown device, download the Wi-Fi driver on another PC, copy it over on a USB drive and install it before anything else network-related. Check the adapter name in Device Manager first, because not every T480 has the same Wi-Fi card.
Fingerprint reader detected, but login fails
This is usually a Windows Hello setup issue rather than a driver issue. Open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options and re-enrol the fingerprint after installing the Synaptics driver, not before.
Touchpad delay, misclicks or missing gestures
The generic Windows touchpad driver works but leaves out several ThinkPad-specific settings. Install the ELAN UltraNav driver from the list for your Windows version and restart.
Thunderbolt dock or device not recognised
Install the Thunderbolt software for your Windows version, and if the dock still fails, run the Thunderbolt firmware update with the AC adapter connected. Restart the laptop before reconnecting the dock.
Unknown device in Device Manager
Right-click it, choose Properties, open the Details tab and select Hardware Ids. That string (something like PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_...) is searchable and tells you which driver category it belongs to when the tables above do not cover it.
Tip: Anything marked with a yellow warning icon in Device Manager is a missing driver. Install the chipset package first, restart, and check again before chasing individual devices.
Windows 11 compatibility notes
The T480's 8th-generation Intel Core processors are on Microsoft's supported list, but Windows 11 also needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. If Windows 11 setup blocks the upgrade, open the BIOS setup (press F1 at startup) and check that the security chip and Secure Boot are enabled before assuming the hardware is unsupported.
Heads-up: Microsoft has ended regular support for Windows 10, so it no longer receives standard security updates. If you stay on Windows 10, keep your antivirus current and avoid untrusted sites and downloads.
Driver links change over time. If a link above stops working, search for the ThinkPad T480 on Lenovo Support and select your exact machine type and Windows version. That is always the authoritative source; this page is meant to save you the navigation time.
Frequently asked questions
Does this list apply to both the 20L5 and 20L6 machine types?
The ThinkPad T480 was sold as machine types 20L5 and 20L6, and this page lists the Lenovo packages for the T480. Hardware options vary between laptops (Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, fingerprint reader, smart card slot), so use the notes under each driver to decide which ones apply to yours. If an installer reports that no compatible device was found, check Lenovo Support for your exact machine type.
Can I use the Windows 10 drivers on Windows 11?
Sometimes for simple components such as the card reader, but not reliably for graphics, chipset or Thunderbolt. Use the package from the list that matches your Windows version. Both lists on this page share many of the same files, and where Lenovo lists a different file for each version, use the one for your version.
My Wi-Fi or mobile broadband card is not listed. What should I do?
Configurations varied by region and purchase batch. Open Device Manager, right-click the unknown device, choose Properties, then Details and Hardware Ids, and search Lenovo Support or the web for that ID to identify the actual chip.
Do I need the mobile broadband (WWAN) drivers?
Only if your T480 has a SIM-card slot and an LTE modem. The Fibocom L850-GL and L830-EB are two different modems, so install only the one that matches the entry shown in Device Manager.
Do I need the Thunderbolt packages?
Only if you use Thunderbolt 3 docks or devices. The firmware utility updates the controller itself, so run it with the AC adapter connected and do not interrupt it. The Thunderbolt software manages connected devices.
Why do the Windows 11 and Windows 10 lists show different BIOS versions?
Lenovo's listing shows BIOS 1.56 for Windows 11 and 1.62 for Windows 10. A BIOS update is not tied to the Windows version, so check your current version with msinfo32 and compare it with the newest one shown on Lenovo Support for your machine type before updating.
The fingerprint reader is detected, but login fails. Is it a driver problem?
Usually it is a Windows Hello setup issue rather than a driver issue. After installing the Synaptics driver, open Settings, then Accounts, then Sign-in options, remove the old fingerprint and enrol it again.
Will my T480 run Windows 11?
The T480's 8th-generation Intel Core processors are on Microsoft's supported list, but Windows 11 also needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. If setup blocks the upgrade, open the BIOS setup (F1 at startup) and check that the security chip and Secure Boot are enabled.
Are these download links safe?
Every Download button points to Lenovo's own download server at download.lenovo.com, and nothing is re-hosted on this site. After downloading, right-click the file, choose Properties and look for a Digital Signatures tab to confirm it is signed.
