Toshiba Satellite C40-B (PSCJQC-005006) Drivers for Windows 10 & 8.1 64-bit
After a clean Windows install, a reset, or an upgrade, the Toshiba Satellite C40-B (PSCJQC-005006) often comes back with no sound, no Wi-Fi, a stretched low-resolution screen, or a touchpad without gestures. Windows installs generic drivers for some of these parts, but the manufacturer packages are what make everything work properly.
This page collects the official driver packages for this model, explains which ones you actually need (this laptop shipped with different Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips), and walks through installation and the errors people run into most often. All download buttons point to Toshiba or Dynabook support pages; we do not host or re-pack any files.
1. Check your model and Windows version first
Toshiba sold several C40-B variants, and the driver set depends on the exact configuration. Turn the laptop over and read the label: the part number should read PSCJQC-005006. If yours is different, use the driver page for your own part number instead.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Model | Toshiba Satellite C40-B (now supported under the Dynabook name) |
| Part number | PSCJQC-005006 |
| Covered here | Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit |
| Main components | Intel chipset and graphics, Realtek audio and LAN, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (Atheros, Broadcom or Intel), Synaptics touchpad, Alcor card reader |
To confirm your Windows is 64-bit: press Windows + Pause (or open Settings → System → About) and look for System type: 64-bit operating system. A 32-bit driver will not install on 64-bit Windows, and the reverse is also true.
2. Which drivers do you really need?
You do not have to install every file on the list. A practical rule:
- Always: Intel chipset, Intel display, Realtek audio, Realtek LAN.
- Only one Wi-Fi package and one Bluetooth package: the ones that match the chip inside your laptop (see section 4).
- If you use them: Synaptics touchpad (for multi-finger gestures) and the Alcor card reader (for SD cards).
- Toshiba system driver and Trusted Execution Engine Interface: install after the chipset driver, mainly so Device Manager shows no unknown devices.
3. Driver download list (Windows 8.1 / Windows 10, 64-bit)
Versions below are the ones Toshiba published for this model. The Windows 8.1 packages generally also install on Windows 10; if a Dynabook page lists a newer version for Windows 10, use the newer one.

4. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: pick the right vendor
Toshiba fitted different wireless cards to the same C40-B model, which is why three packages are listed for each. Installing the wrong one will simply fail or leave the device unrecognized. To find out which chip you have:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters (Wi-Fi) or Bluetooth. If the device shows a yellow warning icon under Other devices, use that entry.
- Right-click the device → Properties → Details tab → choose Hardware Ids.
- Compare the first value with the table below.
| Vendor | Wi-Fi hardware ID contains | Bluetooth hardware ID contains |
|---|---|---|
| Intel | VEN_8086 | VID_8087 |
| Atheros (Qualcomm) | VEN_168C | VID_0CF3 |
| Broadcom | VEN_14E4 | VID_0A5C |
Bluetooth modules are usually connected internally over USB, so their IDs start with USB\VID_ rather than PCI\VEN_. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth often come from the same vendor, but not always, so check both separately.
5. How to install (recommended order)
- Prepare: create a restore point (search “Create a restore point” in the Start menu) and plug in the charger.
- Chipset → restart if asked.
- Intel Trusted Execution Engine Interface and Toshiba System Driver.
- Intel display driver → restart. Resolution and scaling should now be correct.
- Realtek audio and Realtek LAN.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (only the vendor you identified in section 4).
- Touchpad and card reader.
- Restart a final time and open Device Manager: no yellow warning icons should remain.
If a download is a ZIP/RAR, extract it first and run setup.exe. If a package has no installer, use Device Manager → right-click the device → Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers and point to the extracted folder.
6. Troubleshooting
The installer says the platform is not supported
Intel’s generic installers often refuse OEM laptops. Use the Toshiba-packaged display driver from the table above rather than the one from Intel’s site.
No sound after installing the Realtek driver
Restart, then right-click the speaker icon → Sounds → Playback and set the Realtek speakers as the default device. If the device list is empty, reinstall the chipset driver first and then the audio driver.
Wi-Fi switch is on but no networks appear
Confirm you installed the package for your own chip (section 4). Also check the keyboard Wi-Fi/airplane-mode key and that WLAN AutoConfig is running in Services.
Screen stuck at a low resolution or looks stretched
Windows is using the Basic Display Adapter. Install the Intel display driver, restart, and then choose the recommended resolution under Settings → System → Display.
Touchpad scrolling or gestures do not work
Install the Synaptics driver, then check Control Panel → Mouse → Device Settings to enable the features you need.
7. Windows support status and Windows 11
The C40-B is a 2014-era laptop. Microsoft ended support for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023, and for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, so neither receives regular security updates any more unless you are enrolled in an extended program. If you keep using this laptop online, be careful with browsing and downloads. Because of the processor requirements, this model most likely cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 through the official route; run Microsoft’s PC Health Check to see your result. Toshiba/Dynabook has not published Windows 11 drivers for it, so some of the packages here may work in compatibility mode, but there is no guarantee.
8. FAQ
Do I need to install all the drivers on this page?
No. Install the essentials (chipset, display, audio, LAN), plus only the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth package that matches your hardware. Touchpad and card reader are optional but recommended.
Can I use these drivers on a 32-bit version of Windows?
No. This list contains 64-bit packages only. Check your system type first (see section 1).
Do the Windows 8.1 drivers work on Windows 10?
In most cases yes, because Toshiba published one 64-bit set for this model. If the installer refuses, try running it in compatibility mode for Windows 8.1 (right-click → Properties → Compatibility).
My part number is not PSCJQC-005006. Can I still use this?
Variants of the C40-B often share drivers, but the wireless chip or graphics may differ. Confirm your hardware IDs before installing, or look up your exact part number on the Dynabook support site.
Where can I find newer versions?
Always check the official Dynabook support page for this model. Notes on how we keep this page updated are in our About and Disclaimer pages.
