ASUS X44H Drivers for Windows 7 & 8 (32-bit, 64-bit): Official Download & Install Guide
The ASUS X44H is a 14-inch notebook from ASUS's X-series, built around 2nd-generation Intel Core processors (Sandy Bridge) and launched in the Windows 7 / Windows 8 era. Fresh Windows installs on this laptop usually leave a few things missing: no Wi-Fi, no sound, a touchpad that only moves the pointer, and USB 3.0 ports that do nothing. This guide shows which drivers the X44H actually needs, how to tell which variant of each driver fits your unit, and the order that avoids most problems.
Open the official ASUS X44H support page, choose your Windows version and bit-depth in the OS list, then download the drivers listed in the table below.

Why this guide links to ASUS instead of individual files
ASUS serves driver files from its download servers using time-limited links. A direct file link copied into a blog post stops working after a while, and links from unofficial mirrors can bundle unwanted software. The official support page always generates a fresh, working link, so it is the safest place to download. The tables below tell you exactly what to pick there.
Step 1: Check your Windows version and bit-depth
- Press Windows + Pause (or right-click Computer and choose Properties).
- Look at System type: it says either 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System.
- On the ASUS page, pick the matching entry: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 32-bit or Windows 8 64-bit.
Installing a 64-bit driver on 32-bit Windows (or the reverse) fails, so this check saves time.
Step 2: Identify the variant of your hardware
ASUS shipped the X44H with different parts depending on region and batch, so some categories list more than one driver. Install only the one that matches your laptop:
- Wi-Fi: Foxconn, Atheros or Azurewave. Open Device Manager → Network adapters. If the Wi-Fi adapter is missing or shows a yellow mark, open its Properties → Details → Hardware Ids to see the vendor and model.
- Bluetooth: Atheros, Foxconn or Azurewave. Check Device Manager → Bluetooth or Other devices the same way.
- Touchpad: Elantech (ELAN) or Synaptics. Look under Mouse and other pointing devices. If one driver will not install, the other is usually the right one.
If a driver installer says “no supported device found”, that is a sign it is the wrong variant, not that the file is broken.
Drivers you need for the ASUS X44H
The versions below are reference versions from earlier ASUS listings. ASUS can replace a file at any time, so always install whatever version the official page shows for your OS.
| Driver | Windows 7 | Windows 8 | What it does / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chipset (Intel INF Update) | 9.2.0.1021 (64-bit) 9.2.0.1030 (32-bit) | 9.3.0.1021 | Lets Windows identify the motherboard devices correctly. Install this first. |
| Intel Management Engine Interface | 7.0.0.1144 | 7.1.50.1172 | Clears the “PCI Simple Communications Controller” unknown device in Device Manager. |
| Graphics (Intel HD Graphics) | 8.15.10.2361 (64-bit) 8.15.10.2559 (32-bit) | 9.17.10.2843 | Correct resolution, brightness control and video playback. |
| LAN (Realtek) | 7.044.0421.2011 | 8.003.0730.2012 | Wired Ethernet. If you have no internet at all, download this one on another computer first. |
| Wi-Fi (WLAN) | Foxconn 3.02.11.0000 Atheros 9.2.0.432 (64-bit) / 9.2.0.458 (32-bit) Azurewave 9.2.0.458 (64-bit) | Foxconn 5.0.2.0 Atheros 10.0.0.205 | Wireless networking. Pick the vendor that matches Step 2. |
| Bluetooth | Atheros 7.4.0.120 Foxconn 9.1.675.28 (64-bit) / 9.1.686.35 (32-bit) Azurewave 7.4.0.40 (64-bit) | Atheros 8.0.0.210 Foxconn 9.0.717.0 | Bluetooth pairing for headphones, mice and phones. |
| Audio (Realtek) | 6.0.1.6438 | 6.0.1.6754 | Speakers, headphone jack and built-in microphone. |
| Card reader (Realtek) | 6.1.7600.10010 | 6.1.8400.39030 | SD/MMC card slot. |
| USB 3.0 (AsMedia) | 1.14.4.0 | 1.16.1.0 | Windows 7 has no built-in USB 3.0 support, so the USB 3.0 ports will not work without this. |
| Touchpad | Elantech 8.0.5.1 Synaptics 15.2.16.1 | Elantech 11.5.1.7 Synaptics 16.2.11.7 | Scrolling, multi-finger gestures and palm settings. Pick the variant that matches Step 2. |
| ATK Package (hotkeys) | 1.0.0016 | 1.0.0023 | Makes the Fn key shortcuts work (brightness, volume, wireless toggle, touchpad lock). |
ASUS also lists a few optional utilities for this model, such as the Splendid display-colour tool and Wireless Console 3. They are not needed to get the laptop working, so install them only if you want those features.
Step 3: Install in this order
- Create a restore point (Start → type Create a restore point), so you can roll back a bad driver.
- Chipset, then restart if prompted.
- Intel Management Engine Interface.
- Graphics, then restart.
- LAN and Wi-Fi, so the laptop is online for Windows Update.
- Bluetooth, Audio, Card reader, USB 3.0.
- Touchpad, then the ATK Package, then restart one last time.
Unzip each download first, then run Setup.exe (or the installer inside the folder). Installing the chipset driver before everything else matters because later drivers detect their hardware through it.
ASUS lists a BIOS file (version 211) for the X44H. Only flash it if you have a specific problem it is meant to fix. Keep the charger plugged in, close every other program, and never turn the laptop off while it flashes. A failed BIOS update can leave the laptop unable to start. If everything works, skip it.
Common problems and fixes
Wi-Fi adapter is missing or will not connect
First press the wireless shortcut key (usually Fn + F2 on ASUS laptops); it only works after the ATK Package is installed. If the adapter still does not appear, you probably installed the wrong vendor. Check Hardware Ids in Device Manager and try the other Wi-Fi driver from the table.
Touchpad moves the pointer but does not scroll
Windows is using its generic mouse driver. Install the touchpad driver for your variant (Elantech or Synaptics), then restart. If the installer refuses to run, try the other variant.
Screen resolution is wrong or brightness keys do nothing
Install the Intel graphics driver, then the ATK Package. The first fixes the resolution and the display adapter; the second makes the brightness shortcut keys work.
USB 3.0 ports do not detect devices
On Windows 7 this is expected until the AsMedia USB 3.0 driver is installed. Install it, restart, and test again. USB 2.0 ports work without it.
No sound
Install the Realtek audio driver, restart, then right-click the speaker icon, choose Playback devices, and make sure the speakers are set as default.
“Unknown device” still shown in Device Manager
Right-click it, open Properties → Details → Hardware Ids, and look at the first line. Most leftovers on this model are the Intel Management Engine Interface or the chipset driver. If you did Step 3 in order and one device is still unknown, run Windows Update and check again.
Can I use Windows 10 or 11 on the X44H?
ASUS's official X44H page lists only Windows 7 and Windows 8 drivers. Newer Windows versions usually install generic drivers for LAN, audio, and graphics through Windows Update, but things such as the hotkeys, USB 3.0 or the touchpad gestures may be limited, and there is no guarantee the old drivers will install. Windows 7 and 8 no longer receive security updates from Microsoft, so if the laptop goes online, keep that in mind and avoid sensitive logins on it.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the safest place to download X44H drivers?
The official ASUS support page linked at the top of this guide. Avoid “driver updater” programs and file-hosting sites, which often add unwanted software.
Do I need all of these drivers?
Most of them, yes, but you can skip any whose hardware you never use, for example Bluetooth or the card reader. Chipset, graphics, LAN/Wi-Fi, audio and touchpad are the ones you will notice missing first.
Why does ASUS show several Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and touchpad drivers?
Different production batches of the same model used different parts from different suppliers. Match the driver to the part inside your laptop, as explained in Step 2.
The installer says my Windows version is not supported.
Re-check the bit-depth (32-bit vs 64-bit) in Step 1 and download from the matching OS entry on the ASUS page. Do not run Windows 8 drivers on Windows 7, or the reverse.
Can I update drivers through Windows Update instead?
Windows Update can install basic drivers, but it often misses the ATK Package, USB 3.0 and touchpad extras. The ASUS drivers are the complete set for this model.
