Dell Inspiron 6400 Drivers Download for Windows XP, Vista & 7
The Dell Inspiron 6400 (sold in some regions as the Inspiron E1505) is a 15.4-inch laptop from 2006. Dell no longer sells or updates it, but the original drivers are still hosted on Dell’s own servers. This page keeps only the drivers that matter, explains which one fits your hardware and gives a safe install order, so you don’t have to guess between a dozen similar-looking files.

The Inspiron 6400 shipped in several configurations, so not every driver below applies to your laptop. Open Device Manager (right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager) and check these three places:
- Display adapters: Intel 945GM, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300/7400 or ATI Mobility Radeon X1300/X1400. Install only the one that matches.
- Sound, video and game controllers: most units use SigmaTel audio, while some use Creative Sound Blaster Audigy.
- Network adapters: the Wi-Fi card is either an Intel PRO/Wireless card or a Dell Wireless card. Bluetooth is optional and may not be present at all.

Recommended install order
- Chipset, so Windows recognises the motherboard components.
- Graphics, to get the correct resolution and smooth video.
- Audio.
- Network (Ethernet), then Wi-Fi.
- Touchpad, card reader and, if you have it, Bluetooth.
- BIOS last, and only if you need it.
Restart when an installer asks you to. Installing the drivers in this order avoids most “unknown device” and missing-driver errors.

Common problems and fixes
The screen is stuck at a low resolution
Windows is using its basic display driver. Install the graphics driver that matches your Display adapter (Intel, NVIDIA or ATI), then restart and set the resolution in Display Properties.
There is no sound
Install the SigmaTel audio driver first. If Device Manager still shows an unknown multimedia audio device, your unit probably uses the Creative Audigy audio, so install that package instead.
Wi-Fi is not detected
Check the physical wireless switch or the Fn key combination on your laptop, then confirm which card you have in Device Manager. Intel cards need the Intel package, and Dell-branded cards need the Dell Wireless package.
Touchpad scrolling does not work
Install the Synaptics driver, then open Mouse in Control Panel to turn on scrolling and tapping.
FAQ
Is the Inspiron 6400 the same as the Inspiron E1505?
Yes. They are the same hardware sold under two names, and Dell’s own BIOS and driver pages list them together as “6400/E1505”.
Can I install Windows 10 on the Inspiron 6400?
Dell does not publish Windows 10 drivers for this model, and the original Core Duo processors are 32-bit only. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit) are the systems covered by the drivers on this page.
Do I have to install every driver on this page?
No. Install the chipset, one graphics driver, one audio driver, the network drivers and the touchpad driver. Bluetooth, the card reader and the BIOS are optional.
Why do some downloads end in .exe?
Dell packages these drivers as self-extracting installers. Run the file, follow the prompts and restart when asked.
