ASUS X550MD Drivers for Windows 8.1 64-bit (Download & Guide)

ASUS X550MD Drivers for Windows 8.1

This page collects the driver packages for the ASUS X550MD notebook running Windows 8.1 64-bit, plus a short guide on choosing the right ones and installing them in a sensible order. Every download link points to ASUS's own download server, so you are not getting files from a third-party mirror.

Quick answer: confirm that your PC is 64-bit, install the chipset driver first, then graphics, audio, LAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Install only the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth packages that match the hardware inside your laptop. Skip the BIOS update unless you actually need it.

Check your system first

  1. Windows version and type. Open Control Panel → System and look at System type. These packages are for Windows 8.1, 64-bit. They will not work on 32-bit Windows.
  2. Exact model. The model name is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. Confirm that it reads X550MD and not a similar name such as X550ZE or X550CC, because drivers for those models are different.
  3. Installed hardware. Some X550MD units ship with different Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and graphics hardware. Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button) to see what your unit really uses.

Which Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver do I need?

This page lists three Wi-Fi packages and three Bluetooth packages because X550MD laptops were built with different hardware vendors. Installing the wrong one will not help, so identify yours first:

  1. Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters (for Wi-Fi) or Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is not listed, check Other devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  2. Right-click the device (an unknown device may show a yellow mark) and choose Properties → Details.
  3. Select Hardware Ids in the drop-down and look at the first line.
  4. Match the vendor code from the table below.
VendorWi-Fi (PCI) codeBluetooth (USB) code
BroadcomVEN_14E4VID_0A5C
Qualcomm AtherosVEN_168CVID_0CF3
RealtekVEN_10ECVID_0BDA

Example: a hardware ID starting with PCI\VEN_168C means a Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi card, so you need the Qualcomm Atheros Wireless LAN package.

Recommended install order

  1. Chipset (Intel INF Update), then restart if asked.
  2. ATK package and Smart Gesture touchpad driver.
  3. Intel Graphics, then NVIDIA Graphics if your unit has a dedicated GPU.
  4. Audio and card reader.
  5. LAN, then Wi-Fi and Wireless Radio Control, then Bluetooth.
  6. Optional utilities (Splendid, USB Charger Plus).

For each package: extract the ZIP, open the extracted folder, run Setup.exe (or AsusSetup.exe) as administrator by right-clicking it, and follow the prompts. Restart Windows when the installer asks.

Troubleshooting

No internet after a clean install

Windows 8.1 may not include the network driver for your hardware. Download the LAN and Wi-Fi packages on another computer and copy them over with a USB drive.

A device still shows a yellow mark

Restart once, then check the Hardware IDs against the vendor table above. A yellow mark after installing usually means the driver does not match the actual hardware.

The installer closes without installing

Make sure you extracted the ZIP first instead of running the installer from inside the archive, and run it as administrator. Also confirm that the package is the 64-bit one for Windows 8.1.

Fn keys or brightness keys do not work

Install the ATK package, then restart.

Screen shows low resolution or looks blurry

Install the Intel graphics driver first. If your laptop also has an NVIDIA GPU, install that driver afterward.

Windows 8.1 support status

Microsoft ended extended support for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023, so it no longer receives security updates. If this laptop goes online regularly, keep that risk in mind. You can check the ASUS Support site for the X550MD to see which operating systems and newer packages ASUS currently lists for the model, and read the Microsoft lifecycle page for Windows 8.1 for the official dates.

FAQ

Are these drivers safe to download?

The links go to dlcdnet.asus.com, which is ASUS's own download server. Cloud Drivers does not host or modify the files. As with any download, you can scan the file with Windows Defender before running it.

Will these drivers work on Windows 10?

These packages are built for Windows 8.1 64-bit. For another Windows version, look up the X550MD on the ASUS Support site and use the packages listed for that version.

Do I need to install every driver on this page?

No. Install the core, graphics, audio and LAN drivers, then only the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth packages that match your hardware. The NVIDIA driver is only for units that have an NVIDIA GPU.

Which graphics driver should I install?

Start with Intel Graphics. Add the NVIDIA package afterward only if Device Manager shows an NVIDIA adapter under Display adapters.

Should I update the BIOS?

Only if you need the change described in the release note. It is not required for the drivers to work.

Where can I find newer ASUS drivers?

Search for the exact model name on the official ASUS Support site, or use MyASUS where it is available.
