Toshiba NB520 Drivers for Windows 7 (32-bit): Full Driver List & Install Guide
The Toshiba NB520 is a compact netbook that shipped with Windows 7 Starter (32-bit), and Windows 7 32-bit remains the best-matched operating system for it. Why the Official Download Links Are Gone
The NB520 was released in 2011 and is now long past its support life. Toshiba has retired the legacy driver servers that hosted its files, so the former download addresses no longer work. This is normal for older consumer hardware, and it does not mean your netbook is unsupported by Windows 7 itself: most of its components use standard chips from Intel, Realtek, Synaptics and Atheros, which still have working drivers.
We deliberately do not re-host Toshiba's installers or link to random third-party mirrors. Driver files from unknown sites are a common way for malware to spread, and an unverified file is worse than no file.
How to Get the NB520 Drivers Today
- Run Windows Update. Windows 7 can fetch many of these drivers automatically. Open Control Panel → Windows Update → Check for updates, then look under Optional updates for hardware drivers. Chipset, LAN, audio, and card reader often appear here.
- Check the Microsoft Update Catalog. Search catalog.update.microsoft.com for the component name (for example "Realtek PCIe card reader") and download the Windows 7 x86 version.
- Use the chip maker's website. For Intel graphics and chipset, Realtek audio and LAN, Synaptics touchpad, and Atheros Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, download the Windows 7 32-bit driver from the manufacturer. Generic reference drivers work for most functions.
- Identify unknown devices by hardware ID. In Device Manager, right-click the device → Properties → Details → Hardware Ids. The
VEN_andDEV_values tell you the exact manufacturer and model to search for. - Keep any original recovery media. If you still have the Toshiba recovery discs, a recovery USB, or a backup of the hidden recovery partition, it contains the factory driver set for this exact model.
Recommended Installation Order
- Chipset – install first so Windows recognises the motherboard devices correctly.
- Graphics (VGA) – restart when asked, then set the native screen resolution.
- Audio, LAN and Wi-Fi – get the netbook online so Windows Update can finish the rest.
- Touchpad, Bluetooth, webcam and card reader – install the remaining hardware drivers.
- Toshiba utilities – install last, since they depend on the other drivers being present.
Restart the netbook after the chipset and graphics drivers, and again after you finish.
Common Problems and Fixes
The screen resolution is stuck or the display looks stretched
The Intel graphics driver is missing. Install the Intel display driver for Windows 7 32-bit, restart, then right-click the desktop → Screen resolution and pick the recommended setting.
Wi-Fi is not working or the adapter is missing
Check Device Manager for a "Network Controller" with a yellow mark and look up its hardware ID. Also check the Wi-Fi hardware switch or the Fn key combination, which is handled by the Toshiba utilities.
The Fn keys, brightness keys or on-screen indicators do nothing
These rely on the Toshiba Value Added Package and related utilities. If the package is no longer available, basic brightness and volume control can usually be restored from the Windows 7 Power Options and the standard drivers above.
The touchpad scrolls poorly or gestures do not work
Windows 7 uses a basic mouse driver by default. Install the Synaptics touchpad driver for Windows 7 32-bit to enable scrolling and multi-touch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on the NB520?
It is not recommended. The NB520 shipped as a 32-bit system with limited memory, and the original driver set was published for 32-bit Windows 7 only.
Will Windows 10 work on the NB520?
It may install, but performance on this netbook is limited, and Toshiba never published Windows 10 drivers for it. Windows 7 32-bit remains the better match.
Is it safe to download the old Toshiba installers from other sites?
Only if you can verify them. Prefer Windows Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog, or the chip maker's own site rather than file-sharing or mirror pages.
Note: Windows 7 no longer receives security updates from Microsoft. If you use this netbook online, take extra care with the sites you visit and the files you open.
