What to Do Now That the Official Links Are Gone
Since Acer removed these packages from its Global Download Center, here are the most reliable ways to still get each driver working:
- Windows Update / Device Manager: Right-click the unknown device → Update driver → Search automatically. Windows 7's generic drivers cover audio (Realtek HD), LAN (Broadcom), and Intel graphics in most cases.
- Chipmaker's own site: Since the hardware itself (Realtek codec, Intel graphics, Atheros/Broadcom Wi-Fi) is made by third parties, generic versions are often still downloadable from Realtek, Intel Download Center, and the Broadcom support site.
- Wayback Machine archive: You can check the Internet Archive for a historical snapshot of the original Acer download page — useful as a reference for exact file names and versions.
- Acer Support & Drivers page: Search your model directly on Acer's current support page in case a repackaged driver bundle was later re-added under a different OS category.
FAQ
Why did Acer remove the Aspire 4738Z drivers?
Acer regularly retires download pages for discontinued models once official support ends, especially for older Windows 7-era hardware.
Is Windows 7 still safe to use on this laptop?
Windows 7 no longer receives security updates from Microsoft, so it's best used offline or upgraded to Windows 10/11 where hardware allows.
Can I use Windows 10 drivers on this model?
Generally no — the Aspire 4738Z's chipset and graphics are only officially supported up to Windows 7; unofficial workarounds exist but are not guaranteed.
