Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 Drivers for Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 (Download)

Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 Laptop Drivers for Windows

The Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 (machine type 20354) is a 15.6-inch laptop built around 4th-generation Intel Core processors, with optional NVIDIA GeForce 820M/840M graphics. It shipped with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Home (64-bit), yet Lenovo also published Windows 7 drivers, so this page covers every option: Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and Windows 10 (64-bit).

To keep things simple, I list only the drivers you actually need to get a clean install fully working: audio, graphics, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth and the touchpad (plus USB 3.0 on Windows 7). Every button points to Lenovo's own download server, and nothing is hosted on this blog.

Specifications are taken from Lenovo's PSREF datasheet for the Z50 series. The AMD-based Z50-75 is a different model with different drivers, so don't use this page for it.

Before you download: some Z50-70 units were sold with different graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and touchpad hardware. If an installer says no compatible device was found, you probably picked the wrong package, so check your hardware ID as explained in the section below. Also note that Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7 or 8.1. Use them only on offline or legacy machines.

Drivers for Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit)

Windows 7 does not include a USB 3.0 driver, so install the Intel USB 3.0 driver first if the blue USB port does not work. Until then, use one of the two USB 2.0 ports for your installer drive.

Drivers for Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Windows 8.1 is the Z50-70's original factory OS in many regions, and it already includes USB 3.0 support. There is no separate Windows 8 package, so use these on Windows 8.1.

Drivers for Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is the best-supported option for this laptop today. Windows 10 will install generic drivers for most parts automatically, but Lenovo's packages restore the brightness keys, touchpad gestures and the NVIDIA/Intel graphics pairing.

What about Windows 11? Lenovo lists no Windows 11 drivers for the Z50-70, and Microsoft's official Windows 11 requirements start at 8th-generation Intel Core, so these 4th-generation CPUs are not officially supported. Stay on Windows 10 and use the Windows 10 packages above.

Not listed here

I left out the BIOS update, webcam and card-reader packages. Windows normally recognises the camera and SD reader by itself, and a BIOS flash is a riskier operation that you should only do from Lenovo's official page, with the charger connected. You can find those, plus the Intel chipset driver, on Lenovo Support for the Z50-70. If any button above stops working, that page is the official fallback.

How to choose and install the right drivers

1. Check your Windows version

On Windows 7, right-click Computer → Properties. On Windows 8.1/10, press Win + Pause or open Settings → System → About. Look at "System type" for 32-bit or 64-bit.

2. Identify the hardware you really have

Open Device Manager, right-click the device, choose Properties → Details → Hardware Ids, and look at the VEN_ code. Common vendor codes are:

CodeVendor
VEN_8086Intel
VEN_168CQualcomm Atheros
VEN_10ECRealtek
VEN_14E4Broadcom
VEN_10DENVIDIA

If your laptop has no NVIDIA device at all, skip the NVIDIA driver and install only the Intel one.

3. Install in this order

  1. Intel USB 3.0 (Windows 7 only)
  2. Intel Graphics, then restart. Install this before the NVIDIA package, because the Z50-70 switches between the two GPUs.
  3. NVIDIA Graphics (if you have a GeForce chip), then restart.
  4. LAN and Wi-Fi, so you can get online.
  5. Audio, Bluetooth, Touchpad in any order.

With no internet after a clean install, download the LAN and Wi-Fi packages on another computer and copy them over with a USB drive.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

The installer says "no compatible hardware found". What now?

You most likely have a different vendor's chip. Check the hardware ID (see above) and try the package for the same OS from Lenovo's support page, or try again after Windows Update has finished installing its basic drivers.

Wi-Fi works but disconnects often on Windows 10.

Open Device Manager, right-click the wireless adapter, choose Properties → Power Management and untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Then reinstall the Wi-Fi driver for Windows 10.

The NVIDIA GPU never switches on.

Make sure the Intel driver went in first, then open the NVIDIA Control Panel and set the app to "High-performance NVIDIA processor". Laptops with only Intel graphics have no discrete GPU, so this is normal for them.

My USB 3.0 port doesn't work on Windows 7.

Install the Intel USB 3.0 driver above. Use the USB 2.0 ports while you do it.

Can I use these drivers on Windows 8 or Windows XP?

Lenovo does not provide drivers for those systems. Use the Windows 8.1 package on Windows 8.1 only.

Are the files safe?

All links go to download.lenovo.com, Lenovo's own server. Right-click the downloaded file, choose Properties → Digital Signatures, and confirm that it is signed before running it.

Found a broken link or a driver that behaved differently on your unit? Leave a comment with your Windows version and hardware ID, and I'll update this page.
